Google Reviews for Pet Groomers: Pet Parents Are Your Most Enthusiastic Reviewers

March 2026 5 min read

Nobody is more protective, more emotional, and more vocal than a pet parent who found a groomer their dog actually likes. That energy is sitting there untapped in your lobby right now.

The Pet Parent Psychology

Trusting someone with your pet is an emotionally charged decision. Pet owners Google "dog groomer near me" and immediately sort by reviews - not because they care about price or location most, but because they need to know their animal will be safe and treated well.

The review themes pet parents search for:
- "My dog was anxious but they handled her so gently"
- "He came back looking amazing and wasn't stressed"
- "They didn't rush and took time with my senior dog"
- "First time my cat didn't hate the groomer"

These aren't nice-to-haves. For pet parents, these are requirements. A single detailed review mentioning gentle handling can be the deciding factor over a competitor with more reviews but generic content.

The Pickup Moment (It's Emotional)

When a pet owner drops off their dog, they're slightly anxious. When they pick up a clean, happy, beautifully groomed dog who runs to them wagging - that's an emotional peak most businesses can only dream of.

The owner is relieved, delighted, and grateful. The dog is happy. Everyone is smiling. This is your 5-star moment, and it happens with every single pickup.

At the counter during pickup:
"Doesn't [pet name] look amazing? She was such a good girl today. Hey - if you have a quick second, there's a QR code right here for a Google review. It really helps other pet parents find us."

The personalization matters. Using the pet's name makes the ask feel like part of the relationship, not a business transaction.

The Photo Review Goldmine

Pet grooming produces the most photogenic before-and-after results of any service industry. A matted, scruffy dog walks in. A fluffy, adorable dog walks out. Pet owners already photograph the result - it's practically automatic.

Encourage photo reviews. On your QR code card, add: "Add a photo of [your pet's name] to your review! 📸"

Google Reviews with photos are more visible, more engaging, and more convincing than text-only reviews. A review showing a beautifully groomed golden retriever with the text "Luna always comes home happy and gorgeous" does more marketing work than a hundred-dollar Facebook ad.

The Before/After Strategy

If you take before and after photos of your grooms (many groomers do for their own portfolio or social media), offer to send them to the owner:

"I took a before/after of [pet name] - want me to text it to you?"

When you send the photo, include your review link: "Here's [pet name]'s glow up! If you're happy with the groom, we'd love a Google review: [link]"

The pet owner receives a cute photo of their pet (which they'll share on social media anyway) along with a gentle review nudge. The photo is the value - the review ask is the passenger.

The Repeat Booking Advantage

Pet grooming is inherently recurring - every 4-8 weeks. You see the same pets and owners regularly. This gives you multiple opportunities to ask, but also means you need to be strategic about not over-asking.

The rule: ask once, then never again for the same client.

Keep a mental (or actual) note of who you've asked. Once a client has left a review, thank them and never ask again. For clients who declined, respect it and don't bring it up on future visits.

The good news: with 15-25 grooms per day and a 20% conversion rate, you only need a few weeks of consistent asking to build a substantial review base.

Anxiety Dogs and Special Needs

Here's a niche that most groomers don't think about: reviews mentioning anxiety, special needs, or difficult breeds are incredibly valuable.

A pet owner searching for a groomer for their reactive dog will specifically look for reviews mentioning the groomer's patience with anxious animals. "They worked with my fearful rescue and he actually let them trim his nails" - that review is a magnet for every owner of an anxious pet in your area.

If your grooming team is good with difficult dogs, fearful cats, or special-needs pets, lean into it. When you successfully groom an anxious pet, that's the perfect time for the review ask: "I know [pet name] was nervous, but he did so well. If you'd share that experience in a Google review, it really helps other nervous pet parents find someone they can trust."

The Breeder and Vet Network

Pet groomers exist in a network: breeders, veterinarians, pet stores, dog walkers, pet sitters. These professionals refer clients to each other constantly.

Ask your professional contacts for reviews too. A veterinarian who says "I refer all my patients to [Your Grooming] - they're excellent with nervous dogs" is an incredibly powerful review. It carries professional authority.

Similarly, a dog trainer or breeder who reviews you adds credibility that individual pet owner reviews can't match.

Your Target Number

Pet grooming is a less reviewed industry than restaurants or dental - which means the bar is lower:

Getting to 100 reviews as a pet groomer puts you ahead of virtually every competitor in your area. At 15-25 clients per day, consistent asking gets you there in 2-3 months.

And because pet parents are emotionally invested, your reviews will naturally be detailed, enthusiastic, and often include adorable pet photos. That's marketing gold you can't buy.
